History

The Barn, now gone, and Clap Bridge are mentioned in the WEA history booklet.   Here is a picture from forty years ago of the Sun Lido area recently redeveloped for the second time and added to the Rayne Parish catchment area.

The Sun Lido and Caravan Park

The Sun Lido Site

Rayne Road can be seen at the bottom of the picture with Clap Bridge and the houses at the Braintree end of Gilda Terrace.  The old railway track runs across the top right corner of the picture.  To the left of centre the Lido complex is clearly seen.  At the extreme left a shed boldly proclaims SUNLIDO POOL painted on the end wall.   The site of the infamous Barn ~ once a Motel ~ is in the centre foregound.
