The Rayne Village Society was formed at an open meeting in the Village Hall on 19th February, 1987. The aims of the Rayne Village Society are to stimulate public interest in the protection, preservation and improvement of the village, its environment, character and amenities and to take action in any other matters deemed to be of benefit or concern to the village. Free membership of the Society is available to all persons living or working in the parish of Rayne or any other persons interested in the Village and having its welfare at heart.
After several years' absence the Rayne Village Society is re-introducing the Rayne Open Gardens Day on Sunday, 6th July. A selection of Rayne's most attractive gardens - small, medium and large - will be open to the public from 2pm - 5pm. Why not come along and see the results of the hard work put in by some of the village's gardeners and perhaps gather ideas for your own garden? Entry is by programme costing £3 per couple containing details of all the gardens involved. As all proceeds are to go to Essex Air Ambulance, any additional donation would be appreciated. Programmes are available in advance from individual gardens - or on the day from the Village Hall Community Information Point from 1.45pm onwards. The current list is as follows - large and small, so that there is a wide variety of gardens for people to walk round. For further information, please contact Sheila Steer on 326742.
