Q   I don't speak French - how would I cope with French visitors?

A   It is surprising how you can make yourself understood, most of us remember a few words of French and many of our French visitors can manage at least a few words of English.  With an English/French dictionary, a drink in your hand and a little patience we all manage.

Q   Is it all just one big booze-up?

A   It is what you make it, some people enjoy a drink, others don't.  For those who enjoy French wines there is much choice and our hosts know what is worth drinking.  Verberie is near the Champagne region so that seems to be the 'local wine'.

Q   Can I join in without actually hosting a French family?

A   Yes of course!  Many members cannot host on a particular visit or to go to France.  They still join in with the events, meet our French guests and have a good time.  Obviously we need local people to act as hosts, but there is no obligation.

Q   Surely Twinning is just a jolly for councillors and officials paid for from our rates?

A   No, certainly not in Rayne.  In some areas the Twinning is run by a local council and councillors do join in, but this usually applies to larger towns or cities.  In these cases the Twinning is more to do with exchange of trade between companies in the respective towns.
In Rayne and other local village twinning groups, expenses are paid for by those involved; and funds raised are used to promote the Twinning Association, pay for 3rd party insurance for events, and to pay towards the costs of our French visitors while in this country.

Q   Who is going to write a few more of these?

A   You !!     Join the Twinning Association and find out for yourself.
